LARISSA ZHOU

FOOD SCIENCE CONSULTING
I occasionally consult for companies and start-ups and provide advice on food product formulation or food hardware design.

COACHING ACADEMICS AND SCIENTISTS
I share some of my lowest and highest points of grad school on the StoryCollider podcast (starting 14'45"). Experiences like these led me to advocate for culture change in academia. At Harvard, I was a leader of SEAS InTouch, a peer advising group supporting engineering graduate students. I'm a graduate of the Harvard Peer Coaching Initiative and have also collaborated with the Harvard Academic Resource Center to create programming for students.

CLIMBING
I love climbing.

TRIP REPORTS: Cordillera Blanca 2023

I received my Single Pitch Instructor certification from the American Mountain Guide Association in April 2024.

Off the rock, I'm an active volunteer with OpenBeta, an open-source route database that's a much more wholesome alternative to MP.

In 2023, I was a member of Alpine Ascents International's inaugural BIPOC Guide Development Program. The program deepened my technical skills on a diverse range of terrain -- rock, alpine, snow, glacier -- and got me hooked on professional guiding, which to me means instructing, coaching, and empowering clients to approach the mountains on their own terms.

I used to serve on the board and DEI committee of the Harvard Mountaineering Club and was occasionally part of the editorial team of Alpinist Magazine, keeping climber-writers honest by fact-checking their stories.
